Heat Pipe Air Preheater

     The air preheater, having three modules like the one presented in the photograph, is designed to preheat the combustion air for a distillation oven installed in a Romanian refinery. The system has been operating since 2000.

The main features are:

• Inlet hot flue gases temperature: 380 - 420 °C.
• Outlet hot flue gases temperature: 150 - 190 °C.
• Inlet combustion air temperature: 10 - 20 °C.
• Outlet preheated combustion air temperature:280 - 310 °C.
• Heat recovered (all three modules): 1,950 kW (1, 677, 000 kcal/h).
• Flue gases mass rate: 24, 000 kg/h.
• Combustion air mass rate: 22, 000 kg/h.
• Total number of heat pipes: 885 pieces.
• Material of the heat pipes: carbon steel pipe ø 51 x 3.5 mm.
• Total length of the heat pipe: 4,500 mm.
• Main dimensions of the unit:
