Heavy Fuel Oil Preheater for a Power Station


      The heat pipe preheater, presented in the photograph below, was manufactured in 1999 for a power station belonging to the Romanian electricity authority.
It was manufactured using the Multitubular Heat Pipe® Vertical Concept and is assigned to preheat the heavy fuel oil just before entering the burners.

  • Heavy fuel oil properties:
       – Rate: 25,000 kg/h.
       – Inlet temperature: 60 °C
       – Outlet temperature: 130 °C
       – Pressure : 40 bars
  • Heating fluid: properties:
       – Superheated steam
       – Rate: 2,800 kg/h
       – Pressure: max. 16 bar
       – Temperature: max 300 °C
  • Vaporization section of the Multitubular Heat Pipe
       – Bundle of tubes made of carbon steel ø 38 x 3.5 mm
       – Number of tubes: 113 pieces – Length of tubes: 1,100 mm
       – Jacket: ø 840 x 20 mm
  • Condensation section of the Multitubular Heat Pipe
       – Bundle of tubes made of carbon steel ø 38 x 3.5 mm
       – Central tube: Ø 218 x 7 mm
       – Number of tubes: 108 pieces
       – Length of tubes: 2,500 mm
       – Jacket: ø 840 x 20 mm
  • Heat transfer rate: 1,125,000 w
  • Crude oil mixture rate: 3,6 m3/h crude oil, 8.5 m3/h salted water, 208 Nm3/h methane.
  • Inlet crude oil mixture temperature: 10 °C.
  • Outlet crude oil mixture temperature: 45 °C.
  • Heat transfer rate: 435,000 w.
