Independent Heat Pipe Preheater for Crude Oil in Tanks


      A heat pipe preheater for oil in tanks using the independent heat pipes concept was manufactured in 1998 for a Romanian refinery located in Brasov. This unit, presented in the photograph below, is assigned to preheat the oil utilized in certain processes.

 

  

Main features:

  • Heat pipes: 12 pieces., carbon steel Ø 51 x 3.5 mm; working fluid : acetone.
  • Heat pipes geometry: total length - 6,180 mm; vaporization length (in steam) - 1,340 mm; condensation length (in oil) - 4,730 mm.
  • Jacket for heating fluid circulation: carbon steel pipe Ø 324 x 8 mm, length (cylindrical part)– 1,310 mm
  • Jacket for oil circulation: carbon steel pipe Ø 324 x 8 mm, length – 3,500 mm.
  • Heating fluid: saturated steam, max. 6 bar.
  • Oil outlet temperature: max. 55 oC.
  • Heat transfer: 115,000 – 175,000 w.
