Crude Oil Preheater for a 20 m3 Tank

A heat pipe preheater for oil in tanks using the independent heat pipes concept was manufactured in 1999 for a Romanian crude oil exploitation field. The unit, presented in the photograph below, is assigned to preheat the crude oil coming out of a halfway process tank.

Main features for one module:

  • Heat pipes: 32 pieces, carbon steel Ø 51 x 3.5 mm; working fluid : ammonia.
  • Heat pipes geometry: total length - 8,400 mm; vaporization length (in hot water) - 2,500 mm; condensation length (in crude oil) - 5,700 mm.
  • Jacket for heating fluid circulation: carbon steel pipe Ø 510 x 8 mm, length (cylindrical part) - 2,500 mm.
  • Jacket for oil circulation: carbon steel pipe Ø 510 x 8 mm, length – 5,000 mm.
  • Heating fluid: hot water, max. 115 °C.
  • Crude oil outlet temperature: max. 60 °C.
  • Heat transfer: 370,000 – 450,000 w.

With extensive experience in designing customized solutions for oil preheaters, TRANSTERM® offers this system for improving the heating efficiency of oil tanks.
The oil preheaters can be designed into a variety of shapes and sizes to meet specific storage tanks requirements, and to fit the customers’ applications.
